Da Hong Pao can translate to "Royal or Big Red Robe" This Premium Oolong Tea comes from the WuYi Mountains area in the north-western part of the Fujian province of China. The best version is cultivated at higher altitudes. They are harvested from mountains that are nearly always blanketed in clouds and fog. It is between the rocks on these mountains, that one of China's most famous Teas grows. It is a heavily oxidized, dark Oolong Tea. Current Da Hong Pao, although still premium, is a blend from the mountain but may not be from the same altitude as the original trees. The leaves from the original trees can make this one of the world's most expensive teas. High quality Da Hong Pao will have a full bodied, toasty flavor with complex flavor notes underneath.
Due to its high quality, Da Hong Pao tea is usually reserved for honored guests in China.
